Morning!
Vampires on Mars #1 is now LIVE on Kickstarter!
Here are some quick behind-the-scenes for you:
The Kickstarter algorithm loves—like, LOVES—a big first day.
If you can support us early, you'll get us off to a tremendous start for the rest of the campaign.
If we catch Kickstarter’s attention, they’ll start highlighting the campaign, which means more eyeballs and more people discovering Charlie.
Also, throughout the campaign, I'll be doing quick morning video updates—sharing what's going on in the campaign and stories about making Vampires on Mars.
You can follow along on the Homeless Comics Facebook page and my Twitter page.
Not familiar with Kickstarter?
If you’re unfamiliar with Kickstarter, here’s a primer about the platform and why it’s important to me.
WHAT IS KICKSTARTER?
Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects—everything from film, games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kickstarter is full of ambitious, innovative, and imaginative projects that are brought to life through the direct support of others.
Over the years, I successfully brought several comics to the platform and an audio read-along.
Kickstarter is NOT a donation platform like GoFund.me. When you back a Kickstarter project, you get something tangible in return.
It’s possible to back a project just to support it and not receive anything in return, but that's a personal option and not the main purpose of a Kickstarter campaign.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Every project creator sets their project's funding goal and deadline. People who like the project can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers' credit cards are charged when the time expires.
Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. No one is charged if the project falls short of its funding goal.
WHY DO PEOPLE SUPPORT PROJECTS ON KICKSTARTER, AND WHAT DO THEY GET IN RETURN?
Backers pledge money for different reasons. Some backers are rallying around their friends' projects. Some are supporting people they've long admired. Many are just inspired by a new idea. Others are inspired by a project's rewards—a copy of what's being made, a limited edition, or a custom experience related to the project.
WHY I USE KICKSTARTER
Because I love the things I create with my collaborators, and I want as many people to enjoy them as possible.
Basically, I’m still an eight-year-old running up and going, “Look at what I made!”
Kickstarter has allowed me to connect with people all over the world. I can share my stories and ideas with backers I would never have been able to meet if it wasn’t for this platform.
It’s also been an incredible source of inspiration. Over the last 8 campaigns and 14 years, I’ve seen complete strangers become fans and friends, backing multiple projects over the years.
That’s flat-out game-changing.
When you’re in your bubble, working on a thing, there’s always a voice that creeps up and says, “What are you doing? Is anyone really going to care about this?”
Thanks to Kickstarter, I know the answer is YES because of those strangers-turned-supporters. Because I’ve sent packages to people in Australia, Germany, England, and around the globe. Because many of you are on this list because you backed one of my projects and said YES to being on this mailing list.
Beyond the financial power of Kickstarter, the inspiration and energy backers give me and my collaborators have been amazing.
And that’s what turns campaigns into communities.
So that’s why I’m THRILLED to be back on Kickstarter with a book I love and made with collaborators I will be forever grateful to.
Thank you again for all your support, and I look forward to going on this new adventure with you!

COOL PROJECTS TO SUPPORT
A fellow creator has also launched a new project this morning that looks incredibly cool…
Quest #1-3: Swords & Sorcery Action in a Magical Realm!
Left for dead, the paladin Vhess fights from beyond the grave to save her friends... and the world!
Quest is an ongoing epic fantasy series inspired by tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, comics like Savage Sword of Conan, epic video game experiences such as Final Fantasy, and classics of the genre, including Lord of the Rings.
They’ve got three days left and could use a hand getting over the finish line. They’re a great group of creators, so check it out, and let’s help them get over the finish line.
UNTIL NEXT TIME
Much like I believe you can’t say “I love you” too many times, I also don’t think you can say “thank you” too often.
I appreciate every different way you support me and this creator community.
Have a great day!
